Uber Driver and Indian Citizen Jaswinder Singh Sentenced to Prison for Transporting Illegal Aliens


February 13, 2020 - Uber Driver, a Citizen of India and a resident of Philadelphia Jaswinder Singh (30) is sentenced to 12 months in prison today for knowingly transporting illegal aliens for financial gain into the United States.

Jaswider Singh was charged in May 2019 for transporting illegal aliens in Syracuse, NY Federal court.

According to the court documents :
Singh, who worked as an Uber driver, admitted that between January 1, 2019 and May 20, 2019, he picked up several aliens whom he knew had crossed illegally into the United States and transported them into the interior of the United States, in exchange for payment.

On May 20, 2019, the day he was arrested for this offense, Singh drove to a location in St. Lawrence County, New York, to pick up two aliens – including a child – who had illegally crossed into the United States from Canada. The aliens paid Singh $2,200 after he picked them up..
Possible Deportation
Indian national Jaswinder Singh, who received asylum previously in the United States, faces possible deportation for committing the offense of transporting illegal aliens after completing his 12-months prison sentence.

Besides the 12-months prison sentence, the court imposed a two year term of supervised release after the completion of prison term in the event Jaswinder Singh is not deported.
